Subtitle synchronizer

The subtitle synchronizer allows you to synchronize subtitles (srt files) with video files (any video file, which microsoft media player can play).

It works by setting several synchronize points at different parts of the video between the sound and subtitle.

Sync1

Once done you can run the synchronization and a new srt file is created where the subtitles at the synchronization points have the position of the synchronization point, the other subtitles are interpolated to the position of the next synchronization points.

Walkthrough for the first use

  • Unzip the contents of the package into a directory and double-click "SubtitleSynchronizer.exe"
  • When the main form appears, fill the input fields Subtitle file and Video file (you can drag a file from the windows explorer or press the "..." button). Take into account that the synchronized subtitle file will be named with the name of the video file and extension srt, this means: The subtitle file should not have the same name as the video file.
  • Now get into the Film Tab and press "Reopen". The Video file is loaded.
  • Repeat the same step for the subtitles: go to Subtitles tab and reload.

You can now switch between Film view and Subtitles view and set as many synchronize points as you need.

To work with sync. points do following:

  • Seek the video to the position you want to synchronize
  • Wait until the actor has spoken the sentence to the end and pause the video
  • Now switch back to the Subtitles-Tab and search for the sentence. (You can use the search field for this)
  • Once found make sure the subtitle ends at the same point where you paused the video. If not switch back to video and play until the end of the subtitle is reached
  • In the subtitle tab, with video and subtitle in the right position, press the button "Add sync point".
  • In the tab "Sync points" all sync points are shown. Invalid sync points can be deleted here with the "delete" key.

By pressing the adjust button at the bottom right corner of the window a srt file is generated, adjusted according the sync points. If you are using ffdshow or a codec which loads the subtitles automatically when the name of the video and subtitles file match, you will see the synchronized subtitles in the Film-Tab.

This process can be repeated until the synchronization is accurate enough. Then you just can close the program.
